Drilite Loft
Drilite® Loft is our exclusive range of highly water repellent fabrics used in our insulated clothing and equipment. The original Drilite® Loft, introduced almost 30 years ago, was years ahead of its time: a highly breathable, exceptionally lightweight, and very water repellent fabric. Those three hallmarks continue with our modern Drilite® Loft fabrics. Drilite® Loft uses a polyurethane membrane bonded to the reverse of a 100% nlyon face to provide greatly improved water resistance, exceeding a hydrostatic head of 1500mm. In its illustrious history Drilite® Loft has been to the top of most - if not all - of the world's 8000 metre peaks, has seen use on Piolet d'Or-winning expeditions, and on world record breaking polar crossings. We now have numerous iterations of Drilite® Loft, from relative heavyweights to some of the lightest coated fabrics in the world. Some of the highlights include: Drilite® Loft 30D (also known as Drilite® Loft II) is our time-tested and most durable iteration of Drilite® Loft, borne from years of development work and countless hours of user testing. It is the ideal fabric for clothing and sleeping bags destined for serious mountaineering, climbing, and backpacking in difficult conditions. Weighing 55g/m2 and with its 1500mm hydrostatic head it is ideal for protecting high quality down and synthetic insulations. Drilite® Loft 20D is a lighter version of Drilite, developed to meet the needs of those users who require a lightweight and yet still durable fabric for routes where protection is still valued. It has been tested year-round in a huge variety of conditions, and despite our initial reservations, it has proven itself tough enough for daily use by professional guides and instructors at our partner organisation Plas y Brenin. DRILITE® Loft XERO continues the evolution of our own exclusive Drilite® water resistant fabric programme. It is staggeringly light at just 28g/m2 and yet it still boasts a 1500 mm hydrostatic head. It is purpose made for Super Alpine climbing and the most lightweight high altitude or winter expeditions where protection, pack size and weight are critical to success, or even survival. Since its introduction in 2017 we are yet to find a fabric that can match its unique characteristics.
