Plas Y Brenin

NATIONAL MOUNTAIN CENTRE

Plas y Brenin is a National Mountain Sports Centre. Located in the heart of Snowdonia, North Wales, it is a centre of sporting excellence operated on behalf of Sport England by a non-profit educational charity, the Mountain Training Trust. They provide training, instruction and assessment in a wide range of mountain sports including rock climbing, mountaineering, ski-mountaineering and hill walking as well as mountain biking and paddle sports. They also provide training and assessment further afield in the Scottish Highlands, Pyrenees and European Alps.

Affectionately known as ‘The Brenin’ we have equipped their instructional team with technical outdoor clothing and equipment since 2004 as well as providing support to the centre itself. In return, we receive some of the most extreme testing of clothing and equipment available anywhere.

Plas y Brenin has been at the forefront of outdoor leadership and training for more than 60 years and have built up an unrivalled reputation for world-class instruction. Their instructional team are some of the most experienced, committed and passionate outdoor enthusiasts to be found anywhere. People for whom climbing and mountaineering doesn’t finish at the end of a day’s work, but who live and breathe the mountain lifestyle 24-7.

It is that same experience, commitment and passion which make their staff such fantastic gear testers. A typical Plas y Brenin instructor will achieve the same level of wear to a GORE-TEX® jacket in about 4 months as our average customer would do in 3 years!

Regular meetings between Mountain Equipment and the Plas y Brenin instructional team allow us to swap ideas, receive regular feedback, and perfect our products.
